Excellent homestay

This is a lovely secluded homestay which is still in easy reach of all the main attractions of Fort Cochin. The property is well treed and has a lovely green garden with an impressive bird population. Judith and her family looked after us extremely well, including cooking excellent evening meals for us, and a Kerala cooking demonstration. Judith was most obliging and even laid on a wheelchair for one of our party, at short notice and at no extra cost. The property is secure and clean, and I would happily stay there again.

Eden Garden Homestay is a beautiful house located at Fort Kochi. Room was clean and of adequate size, slightly overpriced though. The attached Kitchenette was much more than we expected, we were able to cook good food for our toddler son. They have a variety of birds which was a source of pleasure for our son. Dinner was good and very reasonably priced. Mosquitoes were a problem at night, but not inside the room. Only in the open garden. Maybe it is a green space so they can't do much about it. A little effort to maintain cleanliness of the surrounding and especially the barn is needed. Overall, it was a memorable stay, much much more than we expected.

We stayed in this unique property at congested Fort Cochin only for 1 day with my Twins Kids and family. If one follows Google they are likely to land in wrong place to reach there , instead One should contact the Owner for clarity of location and Mrs JUDITH and her Husband Mr MEL are ever-smiling and cooperative host to take care of your all needs , ((but its difficult to satisfy one' s greed if any)).... Mrs Judith Welcomed us with polite voice and smiling face that soothed our heart and my kids too felt the homestay immediately as their own home...Coffee was served on arrival and its super kids friendly too as they took care a lot of my kids' needs and my kids also relished birds and puppy in the garden with a small model boat in a small pond....After staying in 4/ 5 star Resorts in Kerala tour , this homestay seemed to me more relaxing than all .Homely cooked food was a more welcome to heart than anything as we did not venture to go out for any hotel for dinner or any snacks.....Its at the end of an alley at Amaravati , Fort Kochin , with many others homestays too adjoining it.But after looking all other homestays I found this one is the best as it has green patches of small garden.... Truly ,It is not a Luxury Hotel with modern furnishings and the Room is not Big enough to accommodate 3 , but compact ,clean and has basic things , like Ac , Tv, comfy bed ( though small) etc ....One should not expect hotel like services and facilities here....The Rooms are not in Heritage building instead in a modern house at the corner....Overall it was a peaceful stay and they even arranged an Innova , driver was gentleman Mr TIBIN , to drop us at Airport after sightseeing..... The only thing I have objection is the Price tag it is demanding ....Rs 4000/ for such small room is too much taken into account of the fact of Homestays of Sikkim, Darjeeling and Uttarakhand we stayed , which offer better views and more spacious Room from price range Rs 2000 to 3000 Max for a couple with some including Breakfast nd dinner !!.......... Whatever , We will comeback again at Eden Garden Homestay for enjoying hospitality of Mrs Judith and Mr Mel and recommend to All too.....

Misleading information

I was looking for one night stay in Kochi with price range 4000-5000, Goibibo website suggested me one Eden Garden Heritage Farmstay at around 3500 per night. Having stayed in heritage properties in MP, Rajasthan and Gujarat and Farmstays in Utter Pradesh and Haryana, I thought that a combination of both down south would be interesting and booked the property at usual rigid Goibibo policy of no-refund. The property also carried 4.8 out of 5 rating, so I was assured of standard. When I reached there I found that following information was misleading: ACCESSIBILITY: We reached near property using route suggested by Google Maps, but were unable to locate it. After much struggle and guidance from owner to cab driver we reached near. The property is situated at the end of dog poo infested narrow allay having an open gutter and is not accessible by car. We somehow dragged our luggage through the street and reached property. Room offered was at first floor and was accessible only by a narrow, rickety, spiral staircase. I faced difficulty to take luggage through it. Place is not suitable for kids - for could fall off, elderly - anybody not used to climbing slippery narrow wet stairs or anybody having luggage piece of more than 15 KG. HERITAGE TAG: Properties tagged with 'heritage' usually are having some antique looking furniture pieces, some ambiance lighting with ethnic looking light fixtures and bed linen and cushions to justify this tag, but our room had a plain plywood bed with old mattresses (causing a great rift in between our offered King size double bed), low market synthetic printed bed sheets and synthetic khaki color blankets - Color and fabric choice seemed deliberate to hide skanky bed linen. Table just contained a painted plyboard over it which was having tea-cup marks all over and chairs were plastic. Floor was painted red directly over earlier layers of grime and paint was wearing off at places, it was also sticky with latest layer of grime. There was nothing to justify heritage tag used by Goibibo. FARM STAY: Farm stay properties usually offer some experience to justify tag like small farm, elephant, camel, horse, cow shed or bee-hives etc. But our place was in corner of a very shabbily maintained about an acre plot where an old house with tiled roof was situated on other corner of plot to justify heritage as well as farm tags. I ventured near that house but an old guy sitting there gave me some unpleasant look forcing me to return to 'cozy' comfort of my room. It is also in the middle of dense population. You cant say it a Farm stay unless mosquito breeding is considered a farming activity. SUPER DELUXE ROOM: Room and bathroom was shabbily maintained and were dirty by any standards and was oozing cheapness plastic/tin combo doors in room and bathroom, hard mattresses, dirty bed linen. Owner was aware of mosquito menace but room neither had some mosquito net or mosquito coil/repellent. 18 inch TV on wall. PHOTOGRAPHS: All the photographs on Goibibo - by owner and by so called 20 odd independent reviewers use almost identical orange filter for shooting building and rooms to make it look analogues to a famous luxury hotel in Fort Kochi. A small boat (2-1/2 feet long) deliberately sunk in very small pond to photograph it like large pond having capability of carrying a boat. Low angle was used to photograph small (2-1/2 feet wide) walkway with old house in background to make it look like huge mansion having driveway containing roundabout in the middle. Fish eye lenses were used to make room look large. The room is not worth more than 500 per night. When I confronted the owner in morning by asking to justify misleading advertisement and exorbitant price. It was flatly told that it is a low market home stay and how Goibibo markets it and what customers pay for it is between them only.

After 2 months traveling trough India, Eden Garden is in my top 3 places to stay. Amazing food, clean rooms, waking up in the middle of trees and a lake, some pets around that are really friendly. The staff is just superb and when I come back to Kochi I will definitely go to this place. There are mosquitos but they put nets in all windows and at the door of the room so they don’t get in. To be outside just put some mosquito spray 😉 Thank you so much for everything !
